So now that we know who we are, let’s take a critical look at what we stand for.
The more we close our eyes and go within through Vedic Meditation, the more we shed layers of stresses and societal conditioning, and the more established we become in the truest versions of our Selves.
We begin to align our thinking with that highest version of our Self, instead of with whatever our friends, neighbors, leaders, or members of the media are saying.
We begin to make decisions based on the highest good for all involved, instead of the quickest gain for us.
This is an especially important skill to have today, when seemingly everything we read, watch, or subscribe to has been engineered to divide us from each other, polarizing people into this camp or the other in order to drive clicks and profit off our emotional reactivity.
As we established in the last letter, values unite us, whereas beliefs divide us.
At our core, we all value pretty much the same things—family, freedom, fairness, and so on.
Where we begin to diverge is in our beliefs of how to best preserve those things.
Whereas some believe a free market structure is the best way to incentivize growth and protect personal freedoms, others believe a more socialized support system is the way to go.
Challenge yourself: The smartest people I know keep an open mind by regularly and intentionally consuming media which espouses viewpoints they disagree with and challenging themselves to see things the other way.
The more we are established in Being, the broader our perspective, and the more easily we can see through the contrived one-size-fits-all narratives we’re being sold and think for ourselves.
Our actions begin to reflect our values, instead of merely our conditioned beliefs.
The more we’re aligned with our values, the more able we are to understand the perspectives of others, which are driven by largely the same set of core values.
The more we can understand others, the more we can learn from them, and the more easily we can cooperate with them to create systems that deliver the highest good for the largest number of people.
The more people operating from this level of thinking, the quicker we’ll bridge the perceived gaps between us and begin working together toward a better world.
Once again, it all starts with you.
Let’s discuss these and other ideas during Collective Effervescence, our online group meditation series, this Sunday December 22 at 12PM ET.
