This Sunday’s group meditation is canceled, as I cross the pond to Florida to help support my parents in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, the second hurricane to hit their area in the last two weeks, which made landfall last night just a few miles from their house.
Some may recall this letter from last summer about navigating uncertainty, which was inspired by the visitation of Hurricane Ian upon my parents’ poor neighborhood almost exactly two years ago to the day.
Nature never stops testing us.
During Ian in 2022, I was recovering from a debilitating bout of long COVID.
This time around, my poor mom has broken her wrist during the evacuation on Tuesday and spent the night in the ER after driving 6 hours across the state in gridlocked traffic.
Each test is harder than the next.
But with each test, we get a little stronger—so the arrival of a harder test is a testament to our greater readiness.
Nature always knows exactly how much we can handle at any given time and provides just the right amount of challenge to force us to evolve without breaking us.
So when we look each new test in the eye, we can do so smilingly, knowing that its increased intensity is a reflection of our increased capacity.
Bring it on.
